OUR STORY

Financial planning matters most when it helps you live the life you deserve. Passport Wealth Management grew out of the personal goal of Daniel Tobias, who dreamed of taking a long-term trip around the world. After years of dedicated saving and effective financial management, he and his wife spent 21 months traveling the world. The experience proved to be more than a trip, it was a tipping point that gave Daniel his passion to pursue a career in financial planning. We believe that effective financial management, planning and advice can be your passport to achieve whatever your financial dreams may be.

You deserve to live well. Let’s make it happen.

My career began in Washington, D.C. I finished studies at George Washington University, then moved from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to a career as a management consultant with IBM. Although the work I did was always interesting, it wasn’t what I would or could call a calling or a passion. I needed a goal.

Thankfully, my wife Jillian was on-board with the idea of leaving it all behind to travel the world, so that’s what we did. After spending years with a singular financial goal, careers were put on hold, the plunge was taken and next thing we knew we were petting gray whales in Mexico on day one of a trip through 50 countries around the globe over 21 months. Then we came home.

I was a new person in need of a new career; I wasn’t interested in opening a travel agency and that meant financial planning was the next logical choice. Why you ask? The number one question I’m asked about that trip is how we paid for it! When it comes down to it, my career today is about helping others realize their own goals—retirement, travel, education, lifestyle, etc.—and that’s just what I had done for myself. Bringing that experience to my career, to help others do the same, means I no longer have a career…this is a calling.

I joined my father in Florida and followed his footsteps to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ Professional. Later, with three children—Amira, Nora and Samuel—Jillian and I decided it was time to leave Florida and put down roots in a place where we could spend more time doing the things we loved to do like whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and camping. Although my first position in North Carolina was a rewarding one, I wanted to focus more of my time working with people and helping them achieve their dreams. Out of that desire Passport Wealth Management was born.

Brittney Johnson

I was born and raised in Upper Marlboro, MD. I have a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from North Carolina A&T State University and a Masters in Accounting from Gardner Webb University. Prior to joining Passport Wealth Management I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an insurance consultant, KPMG as an auditor, and the Central Intelligence Agency as a finance officer.

My finance journey began as a child, when my parents made me write and plan out how I would spend my allowance money. That turned into teaching my family, friends, and community on personal finances. I was then nominated and chosen to be a Student Ambassador; traveling the world promoting peace and using my leadership skills to make a difference. With my love for travel and passion for finances I chose to follow my passion and not a paycheck.

When I’m not working I love to write various stories by painting the world and experiences through my eyes. Whether it is about love, friendship, faith, or random thoughts; my goal is to inspire and uplift all those around me. When its all said and done, I know because I decided to pursue purpose and invest in my passion, my life experiences and transparency will help others navigate this thing called life.

I was born and raised in a beautiful small farming town called Hex-River Valley in the Western Cape in South Africa. I have a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Africa in Cost and Management Accounting with an additional qualification in Financial Management. I have more than five years of experience as a Financial Manager and over 10 years in Auditing and Accounting.

I met my husband at university and we were married in 2009. My husband’s company offered a job transfer to the United States and we couldn’t pass on the adventure so we moved to Lake Norman with our two beautiful children. We enjoy the outdoors, biking, hiking, camping or anything adventurous! We love to have friends over and of course we like to “braai” (BBQ). The most important thing for my family is to be together.

I believe that we have the opportunity in life to make a difference and really to leave your fingerprint on the lives of others. We are all equal in life and it doesn’t matter who you are or from where you come, we all have the freedom to make our own decisions.

As part of the Passport Wealth Management team I look forward to connecting with you.
